چکیده

Human erythrocytes bearing electroinserted full-length CD4 (RBC-CD4) can bind and fuse with a laboratory strain of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) or with T cells infected by HIV-1. Here we show that RBC-CD4 neutralize primary HIV-1 strains in an assay of cocultivation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from HIV-1 -infected persons with uninfected PBMC. RBC-CD4 inhibited viral p24 core antigen accumulation in these cocultures up to 10,000fold compared with RBC alone. Viral p24 accumulation was

Effects of Sodium Valproate on the Replication of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1: An in Vitro Study

Background: Sodium valproate, an anticonvulsant drug, is reported to stimulate Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 and Human cytomegalovirus replication. Since epileptic patients undergoing sodium valproate therapy may suffer from various virus infections, the effect of this drug on replication of viruses especially those affecting neuronal tissues such as Herpes simplex virus type 1 is worthy ...

CD4-Negative cells bind human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and efficiently transfer virus to T cells.

The ability of human immunodeficiency virus strain MN (HIV(MN)), a T-cell line-adapted strain of HIV, and X4 and R5 primary isolates to bind to various cell types was investigated. In general, HIV(MN) bound to cells at higher levels than did the primary isolates. Virus bound to both CD4-positive (CD4(+)) and CD4-negative (CD4(-)) cells, including neutrophils, Raji cells, tonsil mononuclear cell...

Tetanus and Diphtheria Seroprevalence in Patients Infected With Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Background and Objectives: HIV infected patients are at risk for vaccine-preventable infections such as tetanus and diphtheria (Td). In these patients, these antibodies tend to decline faster. Due to the limited data, this study assessed the seroprevalence of tetanus and diphtheria antibodies in HIV infected patients in Tehran, Iran. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was carried o...

Oral Manifestations of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Patients

Background: Oral lesions are among the earliest clinical manifestations of human immunodeficiency (HIV) infection and are important in early diagnosis and for monitoring the progression to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of oral lesions and their relationship with a number of factors in HIV/AIDS patients attending an HIV cente...
